Family Ties Ch 2

The next day.

Amy drops Mike off at the field for practice and heads home. She unlocks the door and sees Mike on the couch watching a movie. She enters the kitchen and looks in the fridge and sees no beer.

‘Not again I’ll never get to talk to him he’s probably drunk. Now what am I going to do?’

She smells by the sink and realizes it smelled like beer. Then she sees an entire 24 pack in the garbage. She takes the bag out and throws it in the barrel. Then she enters the house and looks at Mike wondering if he was actually sober and done drinking. He looks up at her.

“Honey come and talk to me I know something is wrong. What’s up with our son; he’s been coming in awfully late and after his curfew. Is there something I should know about?”

She sighs and rests her head on him.

“Yea there is dear old Mike Jr. is one test away from becoming a foot ninja. I just found out myself. Mike what are we going to do?”

He looks.

“A foot ninja has he lost his mind. I told him I have no idea how many times to stay away from that organization. Why does he enjoy deceiving me when he knows that they are responsible for my father’s death! Wait till he gets home today he is in big trouble there is no way in hell is he going to become one of those no good murderers. Anything else I should know while we’re having this conversation?”

She shows him her arm and he stares.

“What happened to your arm? It’s bleeding; answer me Amy. Did our son do this to you with a Chinese Star and one of mine no doubt? Ooh he’s in so much trouble when he gets home today! Oh man let me heal it before it gets infected. Hold out your arm now honey!”

She holds out her arm and he puts his hand over the gash and closes his eyes; the orange shoots from his palms and heals the wound.

“There you go Amy I closed it. I can’t believe he would go after his own mother. I taught him better than that before I started drinking. Oh man it’s my own fault; if I would’ve just told him the truth in the first place he would know better. I seriously need to talk to my brother Leo. Don is already pissed off at me I can’t ask him to help me. He tried to tell me and what I do drink myself till I couldn’t even think straight; then told him to frig off nice brother am I right? Gee never mind what Raph will do to me if he finds out. He’ll surely kick my shell in and Leo will probably scream at me!”

Leo enters and looks.

“No not exactly but you better do something about it Mikey it’s no joke. This is a serious matter your own son going after his mother and becoming a foot ninja. What’s next him going after you his own father. Those little never mind….manipulated his mind making us look like the murderers and them the good guys. When it’s the opposite. Did you know who his opponent is to pass his last test by any chance?”
Mike looks and shrugs.

“No bro no clue. Who is it?”

Leo looks at him.

“My son Leo; after practice he’s going to jump my son and force him to fight him.”

Mike looks.

“Then we have nothing to worry about Leo. Your son is as skilled as you are my son has no chance against him in battle unless oh no….Amy go in our room and see if you can find my scroll I hope he didn’t read it and figure out how to use his wind power.”

Leo sits and buries his head in his arms. Mike goes to the coffee pot and pours Leo a cup.

“Here you go bro you look like you need one. Where’s the hot head?”

Leo laughs.

“Raph is back at his house celebrating his anniversary with his wife. He’s taking advantage of having the house without their daughter around.  Reita is at my house watching a movie with Lisa and Celeste. You’re lucky he isn’t here with me he’s pissed Mike; I advise you to be very careful when you see him later on.”

Amy shows Mike the scroll.

“I think he figured it out honey even though it’s in Japanese. Now what are we going to do.”

Leo picks up his cell and calls his son. Casey hears it ringing and looks.

“Umm Leo I think you better get that the tone sounds like your father’s. Practice is almost over aren’t you worried about fighting your cousin? I mean isn’t he better skilled than you?”

Leo laughs as he answers.

“Hey dad Leo here what’s up? Are you sure you want me to fight him I mean we’re cousins? What about Cousin Don what if he really has to fight him instead and setting him up?”

Leo sighs.

“Jr. Listen to me it’s you he has to fight. Out of all your cousins you are the most skilled like I am out of my brothers no offense to your Uncle Mike looking at me right now with his arms crossed across his chest. Listen closely if your cousin uses his wind power you have my permission to use your water power. Do what ever it takes for him to lose and pass that test please. I got a hold of your Uncle Mike and he’ll take care of your cousin when he gets home. Ok love you Jr. just be alert don’t let him sneak up behind you.”

Leo Jr. hangs up his cell when the coach calls.

“Any time Mr. Mendes. You’re the captain and can’t be talking on the cell while we’re calling roll. Now again. Leonardo Mendes Jr.”

“Here Coach.”

“Thank you Mr. Mendes you aren’t hard of hearing after all. Will I ever get to meet your father I hear so much about him and wonder if he’s fit to be a dad?”

Leo Jr. looks.

“Wait a minute what is that supposed to mean? My father is a working man and takes care of the family like he’s supposed to. You’ll meet him at the game Friday night along with my mother Celeste Mendes champion jock with her faithful steed White Lightning.”

Don looks at Mike and glares then he turns to coach.

“His father is a martial arts master and Sensei. Just like my dad and Mike’s dad. Oh and also Reita’s father they’re brothers. You’ll meet them all at the game on Friday night I can promise you that.”

Practice ends and Leo and Don go to the locker room to change. While they change Mike glares.

“You’re going down Cousin Leo meet me by the alley after practice. Today is the last day you’ll be known as a ninja because I’m about to take your title Mr. Wimp.”

Leo glares.

“We’ll see about that Mikey boy. I’ll make you eat those words mark my words. You have no idea what the hell you’re up against do you? Well you’ll see by the alley if you don’t chicken out like your stupid girl’s mother and her damn grandmother. You’re the wimp not me; see unlike you I fight by myself as for you as soon as I get to that alley you’ll have those wannabe ninjas by your side.”

Mike storms off toward the alley and warms up.

Leo ties his head band around his brow and grabs his stars just in case Mike tries to be sneaky and tells Don to watch his back. He slams his locker door and exits the locker room with Don right behind him. Don also ties his band around his brow and watches making sure he also has stars just in case.
